Parents. Okay, here we go. The causes are apparent: Too fast of a lifestyle, not giving kids quality time, enrolling kids in every sporting event, every dancing event, library time, blah blah blah. How about a little conversation around the dinner table on a consistent basis? While I’m all for personal growth and interaction, I still think what kids really need are a stick and a ball. Get ’em outside and let ’em eat dirt.
Children have the capacity to entertain themselves with their minds. If we are constantly offering them the latest and the greatest, throwing television in their face as a babysitter, fumbling with interaction to the point where they are unable to do anything on their own, then why would they use their imagination to have fun? Shouldn’t we encourage independent minds, encourage them to become leaders and partake in society in a healthy way? Shouldn’t we encourage them to invent things on their own, possess unique thoughts and be individuals, whether they are leaders or not?
